Since Maria and Gerard started working together a few years ago, they have formed a strong and solid working relationship, built largely on trust in one another and Maria’s unflagging faith in Gerard’s potential to succeed.
Gerard has many goals and aspirations in life which he works towards with Maria. One of these goals is to become a famous actor and in 2009 he won the coveted Best Male Actor Award at Tropfest, for his part in the short film 'Be My Brother'. Watch the 7 minute film below.
What have Maria and Gerard been up to?
Maria and Gerard recently gave us an update on what they've achieved since they first appeared in the carecareers ad early last year.
Throughout 2010 and into 2011 they've both been invited to speak at various conferences, symposiums, workplaces, TAFEs and schools which have all been successful presentations; generating more and more interest each time they present. Most importantly, they both continue to increase people's interest in the NSW disability sector and what opportunities it can offer. Most recently, Maria and Gerard were invited to speak with students at Granville TAFE, who are completing their disability and community welfare courses. During the talk, Gerard became the 'teacher' to everyone's enjoyment, standing up at the front of the classroom and singling out some of the quieter students, to encourage them to participate. Gerard's acting ambitions are also definitely progressing. He recently participated in a script development competition called Crash Test Drama. The play Gerard was in won their heat, picking up 'best script' from both the judges and audience vote. They then went onto the grand final and while it didn't gain a place, the play was invited to be a part of the Short+Sweet Theatre Festival in Sydney, in late February. Why not go along and check out Gerard's performance?
